The problem we set out to solve
The global livestock industry is shifting away from antibiotic growth promoters, and phytogenic feed additives — plant-derived blends of essential oils, extracts, and botanicals — are leading the transition. But the companies developing these products face a brutal reality.
Regulatory fragmentation. Every market has its own framework: the EU requires EFSA dossiers under Regulation 1831/2003, the US follows FDA GRAS pathways, Brazil has MAPA registration, China requires MARA catalogue approval, and Japan follows MAFF designation. For a small or mid-sized company, understanding what's required in even three markets can consume months and tens of thousands of dollars in consulting fees.
Formulation in a vacuum. From the field to the platform
Dr. Fayyaz Muhammad is a veterinary medical graduate (SKUAST Jammu, 2009) who spent over a decade in the animal healthcare and nutrition sector, working across multinational companies in clinical, technical, and commercial roles.
In 2015, he founded Truevet Animal Nutrition with a clear mission: develop effective phytogenic alternatives to antibiotic feed additives for the livestock industry. What followed was years of formulation work, regulatory navigation, and the hard-won realization that the biggest bottleneck for companies like his wasn't the science — it was the system around it.
Navigating regulatory requirements across even a few markets required enormous resources. Understanding what documentation each authority expected, how to structure dossiers, which claims were permissible — none of this was centralized, standardized, or accessible to companies without dedicated regulatory teams.
